Alex Van Halen’s 1980 ‘Invasion’ Tour Drum Kit is Selling for $275,000
Are you still in the throes of the Van Halen mania that swept the world after Eddie’s untimely passing on October 6? Did you, like me, stock up on Van Halen gear in tribute to the actual G.O.A.T.? (Frankenstrat striped leggings: recommended, even for men!)
For those wanting a little something extra to prove their VH fandom, the ultimate opportunity has presented itself: you can now own Alex Van Halen’s tour-used drum kit from the 1980 ‘Invasion’ run, the band’s world tour in support of Women and Children First. It can be yours for the low, low price of just $275,000!
The set’s authenticity has been verified (it was on display at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for some time) and there are TONS of photos of historical evidence to prove it’s the real deal, although it doesn’t come with the giant gong that sat behind the kit or the fire extinguisher that was attached to one of the kick drums as a stage prop (oh well).
The kit’s listing on Reverb is short and sweet, and reads as follows:
“Once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, Alex Van Halen stage-played complete kit on Van Halen 1980 Invasion Tour, photo documented w/ drums and cymbals obtained directly from Alex through author of CRASH: The World’s Greatest Drum Kits (no gong or fire extinguisher included). Was on display at the RRHOF. See pix for details. A portion of proceeds goes to charity.”
