Hate Eternal’s Upon Desolate Sands Gets an Instrumental Release, Thereby Making It More Desolate

There’s rarely less than three years in-between new Hate Eternal albums, and it’s only been two years since the band’s last offering, Upon Desolate Sands. In other words, the soonest we should expect to hear new Hate Eternal material is next year, and it could be longer.

That’s a bummer, but this may help tide you over: a newly-released instrumental version of Sands.

Says Hate Eternal mastermind Erik Rutan about the release:

“For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to release an all instrumental version of a Hate Eternal album to allow a different perspective into our music. On the two-year anniversary of our release Upon Desolate Sands that time has finally come. Simply titled Upon Desolate Sands – The Instrumentals, it’s mastered by Alan Douches of West Side Music and is only available on the Hate Eternal Bandcamp. We hope you enjoy this unique journey through the dynamic passages of this musical landscape.”

Rutan’s monstrous vocals are a big part of what makes Hate Eternal Hate Eternal, so Upon Desolate Sands – The Instrumentals most certainly does “allow a different perspective” into the group’s music.

When we last heard from Rutan, back in June, he was once again producing the new Cannibal Corpse album, having previously worked with the death metal legends on Kill (2006), Evisceration Plague (2009), Torture (2012), and Red Before Black (2017).  Rutan may also be functioning as the second guitar player for that band. He’s been filling that role since early 2019, shortly after guitarist Pat O’Brien was arrested on charges of burglary of an occupied dwelling with assault and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
