The New Greta Van Fleet Song Doesn’t Sound Entirely Like Led Zeppelin
Greta Van Fleet, the rock world’s favorite band to argue about, have surprise-released a new single called “My Way, Soon.” And it doesn’t sound entirely like Led Zeppelin!
It still sounds somewhat Zeppelin-y, mind you — this band always will due to the guy’s voice and the fact that they’ve branded themselves a “classic rock” band or whatever — but it feels as if they’ve made an active effort to grow from the blatant Led Zeppelin worship immediately apparent on their past efforts. I never really had any issue with that — I dig the band just fine — but it’s always THE thing everyone wants to talk about when this band comes up. Maybe “My Way, Soon” will begin to change that (I haven’t focused on its lyrics yet, but based on the title perhaps it’s even about that very thing). It’s a decent song on its own merits either way if you’re into this sort of old-fashioned good times jangly guitar rock n’ roll.
Give it a spin below. For the time being it’s just a stand-alone single, although their most recent album, Anthem of the Peaceful Army, came out over two years ago so perhaps a new record isn’t far off.
