Filter’s Richard Patrick is Angry About Nine Inch Nails Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Snub

0

When we issued a report yesterday on which members of Nine Inch Nails are going to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in November, a potentially sticky issue given the band’s ever-rotating cast of characters over the course of three decades, I ended the write-up with the following line: “In any case, I’m sure there’s some superfan out there who thinks Richard Patrick deserves to be in, but c’mon, no.”

I was right about that… but I didn’t think that superfan was going to be Patrick himself.

Right around the same time the news about NIN was revealed, Patrick posted the following to Instagram: “This day can officially suck my dick!” He did not include any direct references to Nine Inch Nails, but the timing has led fans to believe the snub is the source of his frustration with yesterday, the day of our Lord, September 3, 2020.

Patrick was a member of Nine Inch Nails from 1989 to 1993, and performed on their breakthrough 1989 album, Pretty Hate Machine. His frustration is not entirely unwarranted: to be fair, he was in the band during an important period of their history.

Here’s the list of NIN members who will get the Hall of Fame nod:

  • programmer/keyboardist, etc. Atticus Ross (2016 – present)
  • guitarist Robin Finck (1994 – 2000, 2008 – present)
  • keyboardist Alessandro Cortini (2004 – 2008, 2013 – present )
  • drummer Ilan Rubin (2009 – present)
  • keyboardist Chris Vrenna (1988 – 1990, 1992 – 1997)
  • bassist Danny Lohner (1993 – 2003)

Sorry, Richard… better luck next time with Filter! Nice shot, though.
