Unleash the Archers Unveil Fun New Video for “Faster Than Light”
So as not to bury the lede, I’m gonna put this right here: Unleash the Archers’ new album, Abyss, is one of my absolute favorites of 2020. I can’t stop listening to it! It’s a cross-genre ripper with songs for days.
More topically, the band just put out a video for the track “Faster Than Light” to celebrate the album’s release last Friday, August 21. I find the process of how bands and their labels pick singles fascinating, and this isn’t one I personally would’ve chosen because it’s more on-the-nose power metal than much of the rest of the affair — “Through Stars,” with its galloping Queensrychian main riff, and “The Wind That Shapes the Land,” with it’s upbeat music and lyrics, would’ve been my choices — but it’s a good tune nonetheless (all of ’em are!). It’s also the third proper video from Abyss with an actual budget, which is cool for us fans also cool to see the band’s label, Napalm, spending real money on investing in this band. Huzzah for real album promotion!
Here’s frontwoman Brittney Slayes on the new vid:
“Being that this song is about racing off into the far corners of space, we thought it would be a fun idea to actually race each other in the music video to see which one of us was truly ‘Faster Than Light’! Of course we had to have some fun with it though, and added a little bit of excitement into the mix. Our director mentioned an older Stephen King novel called The Long Walk as inspiration for a way to spice up the video and we all agreed it would be hilarious! Check out the plot synopsis on Wikipedia if you haven’t read it already… This track has turned into a favourite of the band and we knew it had to be a single the moment the finished product was in our hands. It’s fast, fun, and is going to be an absolute blast to play live!”

We recently spoke to Slayes on The MetalSucks Quarantinecast about the band’s recent rise in popularity, how the terms “power metal” and “female-fronted” have held them back, and life without touring in the pandemic era. Listen/watch right here.
