Music Industry Announces “Black Out Tuesday” in Response to the Murder of George Floyd
A number of record labels and notable music industry professionals have announced their intention to participate in what is being called “Black Out Tuesday” tomorrow (June 2) in reaction to the murder of George Floyd. These include Warner Music Group, its flagship labels (Atlantic Records, Warner Records, Parlophone Records, and Elektra Records), subsidiaries of those labels, including Roadrunner, and at least one label, Sumerian, that it distributes; Capitol Music Group and its sub-labels; The Orchard, which distributes Metal Blade, Relapse, Frontiers, and Pure Noise, among others; Dirty Hit Records’ Jamie Oborne; Beats 1 host Ebro Darden; and Karlie Hustle, former music director for Hot 97.
A message shared by participants on social media reads:
“Due to recent events please join us as we take an urgent step to action to provoke accountability and chance.
“As gatekeepers of the culture, it’s our responsibility to not only come to together to celebrate the wins, but also hold each other up during a loss.
“Join us on Tuesday JUNE 2 as a day to disconnect from work and reconnect with our community.
“#THESHOWMUSTBEPAUSED”
MetalSucks will also be participating in the show of solidarity. We encourage all of our colleagues who can to do the same.
