Exclusive Track + Video Premiere: Dumb Waiter’s “WNDW”

Some bands make music that’s fairly easy to describe. Dumb Waiter is not one of those bands. The Richmond, VA instrumental quartet describes their work as “a jammy, melodic amalgam of math rock, jazz, metal, and punk,” and cite acts like Mr. Bungle and Frank Zappa as influences… but even that doesn’t truly do them justice. This is a band that isn’t pushing the envelope so much as they’re shoving it right over the side of a goddamn cliff. If you’re tired of the same old same old, then Dumb Waiter absolutely MUST be on your radar.

Don’t believe us? Just jam “WNDW,” the track we’re chuffed to be premiering here on MetalSucks today. It only veers into the territory of anything approaching traditional metal for about twenty seconds, but it’s always eccentric and intriguing and mystifying in the best possible way. It’s catchy and spacey and wistful and scary, simultaneously conveying and sense of complete innocence and a total lack thereof. There really just isn’t anything else like it.
