COVID-19 Claims the Life of “Stacy’s Mom” Songwriter Adam Schlesinger
Adam Schlesinger, founding members and main songwriter for the band Fountains of Wayne, has died of complications related to COVID-19, the illness caused the currently circulating coronavirus. He was only 52 years old.
Schlesinger founded Fountains of Wayne with Chris Collingwood, and the outfit was best known for their Grammy-nominated 2003 hit, “Stacy’s Mom,” which tells the humorous story of a boy who has a crush on his friend’s mother. Schlesinger also co-wrote the theme song for the 1996 Tom Hanks film That Thing You Do, and in recent years had written over 100 songs for the CW show Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, receiving several nominations. At the time of his death, he was writing for a new theater production with comedian Sarah Silverman.
Schlesinger was hospitalized earlier this week. Initial reports from his family said his condition was improving, but he took a turn for the worse. His family’s lawyer provided CNN with a statement:
“As many of you are aware, Adam had been hospitalized with Covid-19 and although he had been making some small improvements over the last few days, Adam’s condition was critical and he was ultimately unable to recover from Covid-19 complications. He was truly a prolific talent and even more so, a loving and devoted father, son and friend.”
On behalf of everyone at MetalSucks, we wish Adam’s family, friends and anyone whose life he touched all the best.
