Foo Fighters Announce 25th Anniversary “Van Tour”

The Foo Fighters have announced a 25th anniversary “van tour,” on which they’ll be “hitting a number of the same spots that Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel and Pat Smear trailblazed in a Dodge van” back in 1995, when they were touring in support of their self-titled debut. Honestly, my first thought was, “Wow, it’s impressive they did that tour in a van, ’cause Grohl was already rich and famous and that point. How frugal of him!”

The press release says nothing about the band touring in a van this time, though, which is fair enough — no one knew if Grohl’s Nirvana success would carry over to the Foos in ’95, whereas now the band is obviously huge and in no danger of losing popularity anytime soon. Interestingly, though, the press release does hint at FF playing at least one unusually-intimate show during the trek:

“[The band will play] in arenas this time, because aside from many of those clubs on that 1995 trek having since ceased to exist, squeezing a 2020 FF show into the few that are still around would just be too insane…

“…or would it? Stay tuned for the answer to that question. Or answers…”

So keep your eyes peeled for more info on that show or shows, ’cause tickets will surely be hard to come by.

Meanwhile, each stop on the tour will also include a preview of Grohl’s new documentary, What Drives Us, which is described as a “deep dive into what possesses a particular tribe of human beings to leave behind jobs, families, relationships and any semblance of sanity to climb into a busted ass econoline and take their music to the people–or at least a dozen or so of them here and there.” It includes interviews with members of The Beatles, Metallica, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, and more.
