Ozzy Celebrates Anniversary of Bat-Biting Incident with Plush Bat Toy Featuring Detachable Head
Ozzy is famous for many things — pissing on the Alamo, his inability to construct intelligible sentences, his family’s reality TV show, The Osbournes, singing for metal inventors Black Sabbath, oh, and four-plus decades of killer solo music — but biting the head off a bat live in concert certainly ranks at or near the top. The incident took place on January 20, 1982, and last year Ozzy celebrated that anniversary by releasing a 12″ plush bat toy with a detachable head for $40. They sold out almost instantly.
Apparently that’s just gonna be an annual thing now, because yesterday — the incident’s 38th anniversary — Ozzy took to Twitter to once again plug the toy. As of right now they’re still available on his website for $40, and I’m sure there are no shortage of people who will go for the gag and pick up one of these.
Ozzy initially said of the incident that he thought the bat, which a fan released up on stage, was a toy, and he intended to bite the head off as a joke. He quickly realized something was very, very wrong when blood began dripping down his chin, and ended up getting tested for rabies after the show.
