“The Rise of Shredi”: Galactic Empire Honor the Conclusion of the Skywalker Saga
Even if you’ve been living under a rock, you’re likely aware that this weekend sees the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the ninth and (allegedly) final film in what has now been dubbed “The Skywalker Saga.” Disney has been promoting the thing THAT hard. It’s actually kind of silly. I guess the (relative) failure of Solo really spooked them.
ANYWAY, Galactic Empire, the instrumental, Star Wars-themed metal band, are celebrating the movie’s release with this new song and music video, “The Rise of Shredi.” (I won’t mock them for failing to find a better Rise of Skywalker pun because I can’t think of a better Rise of Skywalker pun myself.) In addition to metallicized reinterpretations of several key John Williams pieces, the video offers up the violent death of Jar Jar Binks for which fans have clamored these past twenty years. Which is just a bonus, because it also reveals Skywalker‘s big twist: Rey is Kylo’s third cousin twice removed on his father’s side!!!!
(Oh, one last thing: I’d be remiss if I didn’t tell you that MetalSucks has some really cool Star Wars-themed designs. The ‘Darth’ and ‘Leia’ ones seems especially popular. Personally, my favorite is this one, which is just ten bucks. But they’re all rad! Please buy one. I’ve got three kids to feed.)
