Slayer’s Manager Says Band Will Continue After Final Tour
We’ve clowned on Slayer a good bit for their seemingly endless “final” tour — which has been kicking since early last year and is finally about to wrap up — but to be fair, the band has simply made sure they’ve gone everywhere on this run, and to do that takes time. The cities they’re playing on their final FINAL final run right now are places they haven’t yet brought the farewell roadshow, and they already hit South America, Asia and all corners of the world.
Now Slayer manager Rick Sales is on record as saying the band might continue in some form of existence after this currently in-progress final run. And, again, to be fair, the band only ever said this was their final tour… not that they would cease to exist entirely.
Here’s the quote from an interview with MassLive.com (emphasis added):
“The band has always had a lot of integrity. There are a couple things that go on. I totally get that they made a decision to stop touring. That doesn’t mean the end of the band. It’s just the end of touring. I always thought of it as, ‘you go out on top.’ They made that decision. They’re not milking it. From that standpoint, I get it and they made the right choice.”
Sales’s comments echo those of some of his employees, who recently revealed the band has grossed $10 million in merch on this final run and also hinted they have plenty in store beyond their touring days.
What might that mean? New music? An occasional, one-off festival appearance? A Slayer film? Slayer theme park? Comic book series? All of the above? Who knows, but the Slayer brand is so strong that we’re not surprised the band thinks they can keep it vibrant without touring.
