Zakk Wylde Says He Had “Nothing to Do” with Ozzy’s New Solo Album

Ten years ago, Ozzy Osbourne unceremoniously fired Zakk Wylde via the Internet and replaced him with the equally-brilliant Gus G… except that he didn’t have Gus do any writing for what was then his next album, Scream, ostensibly turning the Firewind mastermind into a session player.

Now Zakk and Ozzy are back together and Ozzy is recording another (and very possibly final) album, and it sounds like poor Zakk has once again been shut out.

In a new interview with the Cassius Morris Show, the guitarist revealed the extent of his involvement with Ozzy’s new record… and that extent is non-existant:

“We didn’t do anything on that. Ozz, he just jammed with some friends that he knows. He was just like, ‘Hey, Zakk, I ended up tracking some of the stuff’ or whatever. And I was like, ‘Oh, great, Ozz.’

“That Post Malone thing [“Take What You Want”] I heard was awesome. Post came down to a Black Label [Society] show about maybe — I don’t know — almost half a year ago or something like that, before the Ozzy thing. But he just came down and he was, like, ‘Hey, Zakk, what’s happening?’ A really cool guy and everything like that. When I heard the track, Ozzy sounds great on it, man. But no, I didn’t have nothing to do with the stuff that Ozz just recorded.”

Funny enough, when Vince first reported on the new Ozzy offering last month, he speculated that the release could maybe potentially actually be good, “Especially if Zakk Wylde is involved.” Sad trombone.

So the question at this point is, “Will Zakk eventually record guitar parts for the new Ozzy album, even if he didn’t write any of its material?”. I can’t imagine at this point he’d release an album that didn’t include Zakk. But then Ozzy has been doing things I wouldn’t imagine he’d do for the past twenty years, so who knows.

While we wait to find out, fans will have a chance to see Ozzy and Zakk together this coming winter in the U.K. and Europe and next spring and summer in the U.S. and Canada after his previous solo tour was postponed.
