NEW RADIOHEAD ALBUM OUT IN 10 DAYS FOR WHATEVER PRICE YOU WANT: THE FUTURE IS NOW

The Internet is abuzz this morning with a story that’s just too amazing to ignore; today Radiohead announced that their new album, In Rainbows, is finished and would be released in 10 days. WOAH! What’s more, the band is releasing the record without a record label and is ALLOWING FANS TO PAY WHATEVER PRICE THEY WANT TO DOWNLOAD THE ALBUM!!! A box set containing a CD, vinyl, special artwork, and special features is available for £40 and will ship in December, while the pay-as-you-wish download is available Oct 10. Though Radiohead certainly isn’t metal I’m willing to be bet plenty of our readers are fans, and seeing as we often write about the music biz in general, this is definitely post-worthy news.

A big middle-finger to the record industry if ever there was one, Radiohead announced the record to the world on their own website with this simple message:

Hello everyone.
Well, the new album is finished, and it’s coming out in 10 days;
We’ve called it In Rainbows.

No record label, no big marketing budget… just the Internet and good old word of mouth. The future is now. Trent Reznor would be proud.
