Listen to This Gorgeous Orchestral Reimagining of Metallica’s “One” with a Jazz Vocalist

Look: the idea of classical interpretations of Metallica’s music isn’t exactly new. Metallica themselves did it twenty years ago with S&M, and they just reprised that performance earlier this month to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Not to mention the bedroom covers of Metallica tunes on all sorts of instruments that fill YouTube.

But that doesn’t mean that classical musicians tackling Metallica’s catalogue can’t do new and interesting things with it! Justice, brought to you by Little Kruta, an ensemble led by Kristine Kruta, seeks to do just that. The set tackles Metallica’s iconic 1988 album … And Justice For All from start to finish, reimagined for a classical orchestra, and brings four jazz and soul vocalists into the fold to handle James Hetfield’s parts as you’ve never heard them before.

If the lead single is any indication — “One,” naturally — the album is going to be an absolute treat to listen to. The arrangement is lush and nuanced, strings carrying the guitar parts with some welcome artistic liberty, and Alita Moses’s soulful, poised, controlled voice on this track is the perfect foil for the gruff Hetfield treatment you’re accustomed to.
