Hellyeah’s Tom Maxwell Says That Vinnie Paul “Was Always Really Afraid” That He’d Die Young
The death of Vinnie Paul at age 54 from multiple undiagnosed heart conditions somehow continues to get more and more tragic. Losing Paul at such a young age would be bad enough; the fact that his younger brother (that would be Dimebag) also died well before his time made the loss of Vinnie sting all the worse.
And now, making Paul’s passing sadder still, is this assertion from his Hellyeah bandmate, guitarist Tom Maxwell. Speaking to the Midwest Beatdown podcast, Maxwell claims that Paul “was always really afraid” that he’d die at a young age:
“Every time there was a death from one of our peers — the Cornells and everybody — he was always pretty taken aback by it; he was always worried that it was gonna happen to him. And he was always constantly checking his blood pressure. I just wish he would have went to the doctor sooner. Maybe they would have caught something. I don’t know. ‘Cause he was always really afraid that this kind of a thing was gonna happen, and it did. It’s bizarre.”
I’d call it “depressing,” not “bizarre,” but that’s just me.
