In a move that seems destined to simultaneously garner him some new fans and piss off some of the overly-self-serious-krieg-tr00-kvltists, country music singer-songwriter Jason Hawk Harris has employed the use of corpse paint for his new music video, “Cussing at the Light.”

Harris tells Rolling Stone that the idea originated with director Stanley Sievers, former bassist for the defunct metallic hardcore band Dead Icons. Makes sense.

The clip is highly entertaining, and the song ain’t bad, either. It’s not the pop/rock-with-a-Southern-twang that passes for country these days; it’s, like, actual country music, and it’s a real toe tapper at that.

Plus, there’s a moment the protagonist, a woman in corpse paint nursing a broken heart, flips the sun the bird. Surely, this is a message behind which every black metal fan can put their support, regardless of whether or not they have a stick up their butt about another genre humorously co-opting their style.

Watch the video below. The song will appear on Harris’ Love & the Dark, which comes out August 23 via Bloodshot. Pre-order it here.
