“Slide” into This New Torche Song (Also: New Album Announcement and New Tour Dates!)
Torche are re-lit: the band has announced that they’ll release a new album, Admission, this summer. It will be their first since 2015’s Restarter.
And while the group’s line-up has been slightly revamped — bassist Jon Nuñez is now handling guitar duties, while Eric Hernandez (Wrong) has taken over on bass (vocalist/guitarist Steve Brooks and drummer Rick Smith maintain their usual roles) — Admission‘s first single, “Slide,” suggests the band’s fuzzy, laid-back, painfully catchy sound hasn’t changed much. In fact, I was surprised to learn that Hernandez wrote “Slide,” which Nuñez says the bassist brought to the band “fully realized and arranged.” ‘Cause a) a lot of times a band won’t let a new member contribute much their first go-’round (if ever), and b) Hernandez totally nailed the classic Torche sound (Nuñez, who also produced Admission, says he instructed Hernandez to “use the first three Gary Numan records as inspiration,” which certainly comes through here).
