Brutus Release Grandiose Live Session of “Space” Shot in a 100-Year-Old Pool House

You might’ve seen some recent articles by MS EIC Vince Neilstein himself raving over the rising Belgian trio Brutus. The band has just released a new live session of their track “Space,” which was recorded in a 100-year-old pool in Ghent as part of the Toutpartout sessions. I could not have had a warmer introduction to the band.

The idea of recording live with electronic equipment near a pool sounds terrifying to me, but it made for some damn great acoustics and gorgeous views of the historic building. Each wailed note reverberates most grandiosely, spotlighting the talent and expressiveness that lies behind Stefanie Mannearts’ voice. With only three bodies in the room, and an equivalent amount of instruments, the minimalism of “Space” is brought to the forefront, proving that sometimes less really is more.

The track comes off their newest sophomore album, Nest. If you still haven’t gotten around to giving it a listen, I highly recommend it, as it’s streaming on my iPhone now and I’m hooked like a fish. Order their album and merch here.
