Rob Zombie’s Three from Hell Has Received Its Rating from the MPAA

Three from Hell, Rob Zombie’s eagerly anticipated sequel to House of 1,000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects, has officially received its rating from the Motion Picture Association of America, and you guys are never gonna believe this, but: it got a R for “strong sadistic violence, language throughout, sexual content, graphic nudity, and drug use”!

That’s obviously a massive leap from the G rating the family-friendly Corpses and Rejects each received. I was planning on taking my four-year-old godson to see Three from Hell on opening night, but I’m guessing that will be out of the question now.

I am, of course, just yanking yer chain: the only way the rating of a Rob Zombie flick could be surprising would be if it were anything other than R.  These days, it’s usually safe to assume there’s an “unrated” cut that will be saved to entice home video customers. But the theatrical release cuts of all of Zombie’s movies, including 31, The Lords of Salem, and both Halloweens, are always rated R. So this news is roughly as surprising as the fact that the sun came up this morning.

We still don’t know when Three from Hell will be released, but if it’s gone through the whole MPAA rigamarole, it’s done, so it seems safe to assume the movie will come out this year. In the meantime, Zombie will once again co-headline a tour with Marilyn Manson this summer; dates are here. On last year’s trek, Zombie showed fans a teaser for Hell before each show… maybe this year he’ll share an actual trailer.
