Misfits Announce Los Angeles Reunion Show… But No Doyle?

Update, 10:29pm: Some readers have pointed out that while the first Los Angeles show flyer did list Doyle (as noted below), other subsequent flyers did not. We have reached out to Doyle’s representatives for clarification on his participation in this show.

Original Post:

The whole Misfits reunion thing must be going pretty darn well, since the seminal punk act — which brings together original members Glenn Danzig and Jerry Only — has now played a number of shows since the initial 2016 reunion set at Chicago’s Riot Fest, allegedly a one-off deal. The Danzig/Only lineup has now also performed in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Chicago and New York (errr… New Jersey). Pardon me if I’m missing any.

A second Los Angeles show is now planned for this coming spring, with the band headlining the 22,000-capacity Banc of California Stadium on June 29th with an extra-loaded lineup also featuring Rise Against, The Distillers, Anti-Nowhere League and Cro-Mags. The vibe comes off as almost festival-like with all those bands rather than just a normal show, which is probably what Misfits are banking on with such a big room.

Here’s the thing, though: Metal Injection notes that guitarist Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein is not listed on the flyer, nor is he mentioned in the press release announcing the show. By contrast, his name was included in smaller type underneath Danzig and Only’s names on the flyer for the last Los Angeles show.

Given Doyle’s iconic stature in the band’s lore and the above, we’ve got to assume this means he’s not involved in this particular show. Which strikes me as odd; surely Doyle could take a break from doing those meet and greets he loves so much to participate? Or maybe he feels he wasn’t offered a fair deal? Whatever the case, as much as it pains Doyle to admit, I doubt very many fans interested in purchasing tickets to this show are going to refrain from doing so despite Doyle’s absence… the name “Misfits” seems capable of selling a whole lot of tickets anyway, and most folks probably won’t look too far beyond that as long as Danzig is up front crooning into the mic.

We’ll update you all on the Doyle situation as soon as we have more info.

Tickets go on sale this Friday at 10am right here.
