Staind’s Aaron Lewis Ends Texas Show Abruptly, Tells Crowd “I Don’t Know How to Speak Spanish, I’m American.”

Three cheers for Aaron Lewis, 2019’s earliest contender for the Lamest Asshat award. The singer/guitarist ended his Pharr, TX  show early last night (Saturday, February 2). The reason? He couldn’t get the crowd to be quiet and respectful. Which is pretty amazing. It’s almost like they thought they were at a concert being performed by the dude from Staind or something.

In Lewis’ defense, this was not a Staind show, it was an acoustic solo performance.

Not so much in Lewis’ defense, he made a tacitly racist comment before storming off the stage.

Pharr, you see, is just across the border from Mexico. According to the United States Census Bureau, its population is overwhelmingly Latino, and the vast majority of its inhabitants speak Spanish. So, naturally, a couple of fans in the crowd advised Lewis to ask the audience to pipe down in Spanish… to which Lewis replied, “I’m sorry, I don’t know how to speak Spanish, I’m American.”

No matter how rude the crowd was being, there is absolutely no reason Lewis needed to imply that Americans don’t speak Spanish. Especially since, y’know, a lot of Americans do speak Spanish, and he was playing to a room that was likely full of such Americans. So the guy was just being a stupid dick.
