Fear Factory: New Album Coming in 2019
Fear Factory vocalist Burton Seabell spilled the beans in a recent interview that the band has a new album completely recorded and in the can, but legal difficulties are holding up its release. Still, he promises the record will be released in 2019.
The interview was conducted by M.I.R.P. at last month’s Headbangers Con in Portland, OR, and finds Burton gushing about his next Ascension of the Watchers record — set to be recorded in January after a successful crowdfunding effort — while adding in news about Fear Factory as an afterthought:
“I just had a very successful PledgeMusic campaign with Ascension of the Watchers. We raised the goal. We’re getting ready to record our next record in January. We’re gonna go to Wales to record it. It’s gonna be our second record — the first record we’ve done in 10 years. So I’m working on that. And John Bechdel is part of it. [I’m working with] Jayce Lewis, [who] is an English artist that’s very, very talented. He’s more on the Gary Numan ilk kind of vibe. He’s super talented. I have some other artists available. Mark Thwaite’s gonna be involved, who was a part of The Mission U.K., and he’s touring with Bauhaus right now. I’m gonna have some other people involved, but right now it’s just Ascension of the Watchers.
“Fear Factory has a record done. It’s delivered to the label. We’re just waiting for some legal technicalities [to be sorted out]. And the record’ll be out next year.”
The legal issues Seabell refers to likely involve one or more of the band’s former members including ex-bassist Christian Olde Wolbers, who had some not-so-nice things to say about his former employers in recent years. In any case, assuming Seabell and Dino Cazares can get those legalities squared away in a timely fashion (lolololol @ lawyers doing anything in a timely fashion!) we’ll be hearing new Fear Factory grooves in a matter of months.
Meanwhile, none of the other projects Cazares teased earlier this year have come to fruition yet. Seeing as he said there was “no news” on Fear Factory back in March (which could have just been a deflection, true), perhaps the Fear Factory train got rolling in earnest shortly after that and everything else went on the backburner.
