Metalocalypse Director Jon Schnepp Hospitalized, in Critical Condition
Jon Schnepp is a goddamn hero to the nerd community. In addition to directing Metalocalypse — inarguably the most metal animated series since Beavis and Butt-Head — Schnepp wrote Slayer’s Repentless comic book and made The Death of “Superman Lives”: What Happened?, an awesome documentary about the aborted Tim Burton/Nicolas Cage/Kevin Smith Superman movie from the late 90s. On top of all of that, he’s been an on-camera contributor to Collider in recent years, helping viewers to analyze/dissect/overthink all the latest and greatest in dorkery. He is, in short, The Man.
So it is with a heavy heart that I report that Schnepp is currently in the hospital with an unspecified, life threatening illness which has left him unconscious and in critical condition. A crowdfunding campaign has been launched by Schnepp’s partner, Holly Payne, to help cover medical costs:
“Friends, Jon Schnepp is unconscious and in critical condition. I cannot tell you the details, but it is life-threatening. That’s all I can tell you right now. I have been sharing with him how much all of you are rallying for him, and showing your incredible love & support. I’ve been sitting vigilantly beside him and whispering ‘I love you Chimpnugget’ over and over again in his ear, resting my head on his huge chest. This is the most challenging experience of my life, but knowing he is so loved helps heal my fractured heart. All of your well wishes have not gone unnoticed. If you can contribute anything to his medical bills, that will help us both. Much love to all of you.”
