The Metal Community Reacts to the Death of Caleb Scofield
The reaction from the metal community to the death of Cave In, Old Man Gloom and Zozobra bassist Caleb Scofield has been overwhelming. Scofield died Wednesday in a mysterious and horrific car accident at the age of only 39.
A YouCaring fundraiser to help Caleb’s wife and two children cover his funeral expenses started out yesterday afternoon with a modest goal of raising $1,000, and within hours had already eclipsed $30,000; as of the time we’re writing this, fans have donated over $50,000! Truly incredible.
Written tributes have been pouring in from every corner of the metal scene as well, with other musicians and bands posting their condolences, expressing their shock and sharing memories of Caleb to social media. The outpouring from those in Caleb’s native New England / Northeast metal scene over the past two decades has been particularly strong, with folks from all over the world celebrating Caleb’s life and how his music touched them as well.
This man and the music he created were truly loved. Here are some of the social media tributes we’ve seen from well-known musicians and bands in the metal community:

Bardus:
Saddened to hear the news of Caleb Scofield passing away. Its no accident our band sounds the way it does, drawing influences from Cave In and Old Man Gloom's heavy bottom end. Thank you for your music and introducing lots of musicians to a world of sonic destruction.
