Metallica Make Whiskey Now (in the Jar-Oh… Ah!)
Metallica’s cover of the classic Irish folk song “Whiskey in the Jar” wasn’t just talk: the band is now preparing to get into the whiskey game.
On the latest episode of The WhiskyCast, veteran distiller Dave Pickerell reveals that he’s teaming up with Metallica to create their own whiskey. What’s more, Pickerell — former master distiller at Maker’s Mark — plans on building a new distillery for the band to create their juice from scratch as well:
“I can just say that we’re going to make a killer whiskey product, and probably build a little distillery someplace as well…putting all the logistics together and crashing just as hard as we can.”
Pickerell went on to say that the distillery would likely either be located in Louisville, Nashville or the band’s native Bay Area:
“San Fransisco, the home of Metallica, Louisville, the home of bourbon, and Nashville, the home of music … one of those three seems to make sense. I”m voting for San Fransisco and the Bay Area, if nothing falls apart.”

The involvement of Pickerell with the project makes me think it’ll be a bourbon and not an Irish whiskey, but we won’t split hairs. We have only one question: will it come in a jar-oh?
