There’s Some Good Advice in the New Melvins Song
There are a number of reasons not to live in Florida. It’s hot and swampy. It’s full of old people, but doesn’t offer palliative care. It’s going to be underwater in my lifetime. Malevolent Creation live there. And those are just some of the more common-sense ones off the top of my head.
The Melvins, we can assume, totally understand the drawbacks of the so-called ‘Sunshine State,’ ’cause they’ve created a mash-up of a mash-up of the James Gang’s “Stop” and Butthole Surfers’ “Moving to Florida,” entitled “Stop Moving to Florida,” to help spread the gospel. It doesn’t include any lyrics about airlifting Cannibal Corpse and Trivium out before the state sinks to the appropriate level of Hell, but I assume that’s an oversight.
“Stop Moving to Florida” will appear on the Melvins’ new album, Pinkus Abortion Technician, which comes out in all fifty states on April 20 via Ipecac. The record will feature “both ongoing Melvins’ bass player Steven McDonald (Redd Kross, OFF!) and Butthole Surfers’, and occasional Melvins’, bottom ender Jeff Pinkus on bass.” The group goes on tour that same month.
