Nick Hipa Comments on the Possibility of an As I Lay Dying Reunion
Rumors surfaced last month that the recently-freed Tim Lambesis is planning to resurrect As I Lay Dying, allegedly with all new members. What do his former partners in crime metal think about that? Jamey Jasta endeavored to find out when he interviewed ex-guitarist Nick Hipa (currently of Wovenwar, along with two other ex-AILD members) on his latest podcast episode.
The interview was recorded this past summer on the Warped Tour before last month’s rumors surfaced. When asked whether Hipa would consider a reunion, here’s what he had to say:
It’s just something that not really… Man, I’m on the spot… People ask us about it a lot. But what it comes down to, is just like, what makes sense with what we have going on in our lives. And we’ve got a lot of important things going on that don’t relate to that and we’ve made commitments to, and that’s what we are honoring at this moment.
Honestly it’s just not something we try and consume our thoughts with. Because it’s like we have families, businesses, professions, and a band—and all these things we’re super invested into. It’s like all of our attention is there with that at the moment.
If all of that seems a whole lot less strongly worded than you’d expect, you’re not alone in feeling that way. I would’ve thought Hipa to be way more resolute in the terms he choses to discuss a man who plotted to kill his wife and also sidelined Hipa’s own career. That said, Hipa is an extremely affable, mild-mannered gentleman, the type of guy that’s all smiles and would think twice about swatting a fly. While internally he may know that he’d never consider such a reunion, he may just be taking the high road here to avoid creating controversy. At least I certainly hope that’s the case.
If the rumors suggesting Lambesis is forming a new lineup of As I Lay Dying end up being true, you’ll all certainly hear about it anywhere and everywhere. Rest assured, we’re pretty sure Hipa, Josh Gilbert, Jordan Mancino and Phil Sgrosso have the good sense to steer clear.
