Aborted Guitarist Releases New Track Featuring Textures Vocalist
Vince first made note of Mendel, the project from Mendel bij de Leij, back in 2012, right around the time the guitarist joined Aborted. At that point, Vince described Mendel as being “Kind of like The Human Abstract, but without vocals and much faster / more energetic.”
You only have to amend that description slightly to describe Mendel’s new track, “Hellbound” — ’cause it has vocals, courtesy of Textures’ Daniël de Jongh. As a result, Mendel sounds more like a sped-up The Human Abstract than ever before.
That’s not a bad thing. “Hellbound” is the best kind of neoclassical, melodic prog-metal — the kind that never forgets it needs to be a song first and a wank sesh second. In other words, you’ll get it stuck in your head AND you’ll drool over the musicianship.
Let “Hellbound” take you to Heaven below. The track will appear on Mendel’s new album, Universal Omega, which drops October 26. Pre-order it here.
