WSOU Picks of the Week: Threshold, Arch Enemy, The Black Dahlia Murder

Seton Hall University’s WSOU radio is the only all-metal, all-the-time station currently broadcasting in the US, and as been a force in metal for DECADES. It’s also streamable online from anywhere in the world! Each week, the staff of WSOU shares their picks for the heaviest of the heavy, as well as the station’s charts for that week, right here on MetalSucks. Enjoy:

Threshold – “Small Dark Lines” (Dylan G.)

The title of Threshold’s new album Legends Of The Shires screams “cheesefest of hairy footed cretins and wizards,” but I promise you that pre-orders do not come with cup of Velveeta. Instead, Threshold offer some good old fashioned prog. “Small Dark Lines” is one of the more conventionally structured songs off the album, as Threshold are the latest prog band to put out an immense concept record.

Arch Enemy – “The Eagle Flies Alone” (Joe R.)

Arch Enemy’s “The Eagle Flies Alone” from their new album Will to Power is an excellent second helping of new music after hearing first single “The World is Yours.” The vocals of the phenomenal Alissa White-Gluz are absolutely killer and the guitar work compliments her tone so well. This is a great album to finish out the summer!

The Black Dahlia Murder – “Nightbringers” (Garren L.)

It’s been a few weeks since the Black Dahlia Murder released the title track from their upcoming album Nightbringers. There is no mistaking that this is the Black Dahlia Murder playing, with Trevor Strnad’s vocals giving it a haunting and sinister feel. Musically this song is a bit slower than most of the band’s work, but that isn’t a bad thing as it makes Brandon Ellis’ guitar prowess stand out even more. If this new track is any indication of what to expect on the upcoming album then we might end up with the metal album of the year.
