Shit That Comes Out Today: August 11, 2017
In case anyone was wondering, the float trip I went on was a disaster. Flash floods tend to put a damper on vacations, especially after you’re fifteen beers, seven Jell-O shots and some unholy amount of straight liquor pulls in after less than three hours of floating. I still managed to see plenty of boobs before we got rained out though, so whatever. It wasn’t a total loss. On another important note, I’ll be at the Summer Slaughter off-date in Wichita, KS on August 20 to film some stuff with The Black Dahlia Murder. If any of you want to get shitfaced and tell me you hate me in person, don’t miss your chance.

Avé (Nuclear Blast)

I didn’t listen to the original Venom that much and I don’t have a ton of background on Venom Inc., either. I can’t tell you how this stacks up, but I can tell you that I definitely dig the song. As an added bonus of being a good song, the lyric video for “Avé Satanas” will appeal to the graphic designer friend in your life because Venom Inc decided to use damn near every fucking font under the blackened, cursed sun, presumably to make other bands feel inferior about their typography. So hey, we’ve got a little something for everyone here.
Motograter
Desolation (EMP Label Group)

Listen: “Parasite”
I’m not sure what the deal with Motograter is. I don’t really think the single is that terrible, but Axl seems to hate them and almost every YouTube comment I’ve read seems to hate them, too. Maybe it’s just that “Parasite” doesn’t sound unique in any way, shape or form. Or maybe it’s just the bored-sounding good cop vocals in the chorus. What also amazes me is that it took Motograter a mere fourteen years after their first album in 2003 to release their sophomore effort. I don’t know. If you’re looking for something mediocre and unimpressive, then this is the album for you. Apparently Five Finger Death Punch’s Ivan Moody used to be in this band, so they lose lots of points for that.
Dawn of Disease

I want to go on record as saying that purple is a very underrated color when it comes to metal album artwork. Everything is all black and red and warm colors, but black and purple looks pretty damn cool, too, as shown by this album cover and by The Black Dahlia Murder’s Everblack. Dawn of Disease bring us an album of melodic death metal that is very accessible to those looking to break into the genre and expand their musical tastes. The music is catchy and not overwhelming as some death metal can be. If you need something to break up the regular grind of brutality, then check these dudes out.

You can probably guess what Empyrean Throne sound like just by their name, and if you said black metal then you’re correct! Empyrean Throne bring us some wonderful kvlt music that shockingly doesn’t sound like it was recorded on a potato plugged into a trash can. It’s a wonderful thing, I tell you. There’s something about these demonic shrieks that just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, and knowing that this music will be playing when our Dark Lord and Master comes back to cleanse this impure world with flames makes that feeling even better. I mean uhhh, these guys are good and you should listen to them while NOT investigating me for anything Satan-related. Yeah.
Cormorant
Diaspora (War Crime)

Listen: “Preserved in Ash”
Cormorant are the second black metal band featured this week, and judging by the whopping 441 views that “Preserved in Ash” has on YouTube, they need a little more love. They have more of the typical fuzzy recording black metal sound going for them and get this, Diaspora has only four tracks but still clocks in at a ridiculous 60-minutes. Crazy I tell ya, but the music is good, so fuck it. The other point of interest here is the album art. If someone could go to their Bandcamp and tell me what in the actual fuck is going on, I would appreciate it. I don’t know how much acid you have to drop to come up with horses on stilts walking over castle people, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t curious.
