These are Mikael Åkerfeldt from Opeth’s Ten Favorite Metal Albums of All Time
It’s been eleven days since Rolling Stone last released a celebrity musician’s list of favorite metal albums as part of the magazine’s own list of the 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time. In Internet time, eleven days is an eternity, so you probably forgot all about these, or at least assumed they were done. But you assumed incorrectly, because now we have Mikael Åkerfeldt from Opeth’s list to examine/argue over!
Unsurprisingly, given the creative direction in which Opeth have moved over the past ten years or so, the list is light on death metal and heavy on proto-metal. More interestingly, this is the first of these lists, other than Lars Ulrich’s, not to include any Metallica.
Here’s Mikael’s list (via The PRP):
10. Lucifer’s Friend – Where the Groupies Killed the Blues
09. Deep Purple – Stormbringer
08. Yngwie J. Malmsteen – Rising Force
07. Entombed – Left Hand Path
06. King Diamond – Them
05. Morbid Angel – Altars of Madness
04. Led Zeppelin – Led Zeppelin II
03. Rainbow – Rising
02. Judas Priest – Sad Wings of Destiny
01. Black Sabbath – Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
