Former Exodus Members Rob Dukes and Rick Hunolt to Re-Join the Band for a Night
Well, this is certainly unexpected — but not unwelcome! — news.
Former Exodus members Rob Dukes (vocals) and Rick Hunolt (guitars) will both make guest appearances at the band’s show at The Chapel in San Francisco this coming Saturday, July 8 (the band will also play there the night prior). Hunolt’s return isn’t all that surprising — he temporarily re-joined the band for some dates in 2012. But Dukes has been vocal about his displeasure at being fired in 2014 so that former frontman Steve “Zetro” Souza could return to the fold. But Blabbermouth says everyone has hugged it out:
Speaking to CBS SF, Exodus guitarist and main songwriter Gary Holt stated about this weekend’s dates: “The first night is going to be [current singer] Steve Souza’s first headlining show with Exodus back in the Bay. We’re going to put together a pretty varied setlist and try to pull out a couple of deep tracks. It’s going to be really killer. The second night, we’ve got a few special guests lined up. It’s going to be awesome. We have Rob Dukes coming up to sing some songs. I’m super stoked about that. Rick Hunolt is going to play a few songs and [Heathen guitarist] Kragen [Lum], who has been standing in for me [while I have been on tour with Slayer], is going to play some songs. It’s going to be a night to remember.”
He continued: “Most of those songs are second nature to those who played on them. It’s just a matter of getting it together. Hell, I need to call him, but I think we’ve even got Paul Bostaph coming up to play drums on a song. It’s going to be a really cool night.”
So not only will the gig bring back Dukes and Hunolt, but it could end up more or less being a Slexoder performance, too. Neat.
The Chapel’s capacity is only 500 people, but amazingly enough, the show doesn’t seem to be sold out yet. If you wanna go, get yer tickets here. Exmortus is also on the bill, so it should be a fun night all around.
