Ex-In Flames Members Jesper Strömblad and Peter Iwers Team Up for New Band
If you’re not quite sure what ex-In Flames guitarist Jesper Strömblad has been up to since leaving In Flames in 2010, you can be forgiven: while his post-In Flames project The Resistance put out some decent material it never made that big of a splash, and the most attention Strömblad has gotten in the media seems to come when he comments on his old band.
Strömblad quit The Resistance last year and just a few months later his ex-In Flames bandmate Peter Iwers left the latter, setting the stage for a reunion of sorts: the two have now started a new project together called Cyhra. Joining them is ex-Amaranthe vocalist Joacim “Jake E” Lundberg and Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody drummer Alex Landenburg.
Lundberg described Cyhra’s sound as “modern metal” with “Jesper’s style from old melodic In Flames and my vocal melodies.” He added that “Our intention is that both Amaranthe fans and In Flames fans will at least have a listen to Cyhra and hopefully like what we’re doing.”
Which certainly sounds promising? It’d be fantastic to hear what kind of old In Flames-style riffs Strömblad still has in the tank, although Lundberg’s vocal style with certainly tilt things in a more melodic direction, aka the newer In Flames stuff Strömblad allegedly dislikes. We’ll find out when the group releases their first album, allegedly scheduled for this coming fall via Spinefarm.
