Informal Reader Poll: Would You Go To A Metal Gay Bar?

When I was a nightlife reporter in New York, I enjoyed gay bar assignments (you’re welcome, commenters). The decor was always interesting, the beer and drink selection was always good, and the staff were always nice to me (and if you’ve seen me on camera, you know it wasn’t because of my looks).

Obviously, as the town alkie, I also really dig metal bars. There’s something about drinking cheap beer surrounded by horror movie merch and candles while Kreator plays in the background that really makes me feel at home. Maybe it’s because I’m a Cancer–I just love the sunless metal nest of it all.

But the other day, it dawned on me–there are no metal gay bars, or if there are I’ve never heard of them (a quick Google search shows Le Full Metal in Paris, but I’m not sure the metal in question refers to music). My immediate thought was, well, of course there aren’t–given the homophobic tendencies of a lot of metalheads, gay people in the scene don’t want the whole world to know. But the more I thought about it, the more I thought that a gay metal bar would be perfect! Metal’s hyper-masculine overtones are super homo-erotic, and a lot of metal stage clothes would look right at home at the leather bar.

So, you tell us: would you go to a metal gay bar? If you could open a metal gay bar, what would you call it? What would it be like? Are there metal gay bars I don’t know about, and if so, where are they?
