Tim Lambesis Has Been Out of Prison for Almost Two Months Already
Yesterday we got wind of the disturbing news that As I Lay Dying’s Tim Lambesis had been released from prison just two-and-a-half years into the six year sentence he was given for attempting to hire a hitman to kill his ex-wife. The revelation came from an interview between Eddie Trunk and Dokken’s George Lynch, of all people, whose daughter had a relationship with former AILD/current Wovenwar guitarist Nick Hipa.
Alternative Press reached out to the California Department of Corrections to confirm Lynch’s surprising claim. A representative confirmed that he was discharged on December 17th, 2016 to the Division of Adult Parole Operations.
Lambesis’s current whereabouts are unknown. Some suspect he may be at his parents’ house in Del Mar, CA, where a neighbor witnessed a shouting match between Tim and his ex-wife Meggan in 2013, but that’s just conjecture. It’s also still not publicly known where he served his lengthy house arrest after being let out on bail but before being sentenced.
From his perspective, it’s understandable why he’d want to avoid all the attention from the media by keeping his release under wraps. Poor George Lynch probably didn’t realize the time bomb he set when he gave that interview to Eddie Trunk.
But from anyone else’s point of view, to call Lambesis’ release “horrifying” would fail to approach the gravity of the situation. Presumably the courts found good reason to let Lambesis out early; we must respect the judicial system. But I can’t imagine that makes it any easier for Meggan (or the couple’s three children) to deal with the fact that a man who once conspired to kill her is now back out in the general population. Meggan previously had a restraining order issued against Tim, and had filed a civil lawsuit for $2 million; we do not know the current status of either of those issues.
We’ll leave you with this excerpt from a statement Lambesis posted on his Tumblr page (since deleted) in July of 2013 while on house arrest. Perhaps now that Lambesis has been released and the case is presumably over with we’ll finally hear his side of the story, as promised… for whatever that’s worth:
“Some day I will be able to tell the story of all that has happened in detail to get the facts straight and representing the many sides to this fairly complex story. In the mean time, many of you will make your assumptions and take the sensationalism of the press focusing on selling points at face value.
“I can’t stop that from happening, and I’ve learned something by not having that kind of control. The people who want understanding will wait until the formalities and trials are done. Strangely enough, those type of minds are the people least likely to be judgmental even if I am found guilty.
“Those reporting from the courtroom will only pass along select facts and the case itself will only require select facts that do not encompass the entirety events. On the other hand, the seemingly larger percentage of people delight in voicing their opinion even though I personally have never said a word about even a single detail related to my case.
