Déjà Vu All Over Again: Phil Lewis Re-Joins L.A. Guns for the Third Time (I Think)
I know, I know: you don’t care about L.A. Guns. Maybe you used to care about L.A. Guns; maybe you never did. They weren’t the most popular band in their heyday, and their heyday was thirty years ago.
But I submit to you, beloved readers, that you should care about L.A. Guns. Not really because of their music (I mean, I dig a lot of their old shit, but that’s just me) but because it is now clear that L.A. Guns are not a band… they are the world’s longest-running comedic performance art project.
That’s the only logical explanation as to why, per Metal Sludge, “[guitarist] Tracii Guns and singer Phil Lewis are reunited again, this time for good they swear.” The duo’s most recent split was announced last month, and occurred a mere three months after their second-most recent reunion. Technically, Lewis was only out of the band this time for only a couple of weeks.
And remember, above all: this comes after YEARS of there being two different L.A. Guns — one with Tracii, one with Phil.
Meanwhile, drummer Steve Riley is apparently out of the band, although it’s fair to assume that will change in 3-5 days.
So like I said: maybe you don’t care about L.A. Guns, but you should. The only comedy show that’s been running for longer is The Simpsons… and that program’s actors haven’t had to stay in character all this time.
