WSOU Picks of the Week: Power Trip, Warbringer, Obituary

0

Seton Hall University’s WSOU radio is the only all-metal, all-the-time station currently broadcasting in the US, and as been a force in metal for DECADES. It’s also streamable online from anywhere in the world! Each week, the staff of WSOU shares their picks for the heaviest of the heavy, as well as the station’s charts for that week, right here on MetalSucks. Enjoy:

Power Trip – “Executioner’s Tax (Swing of the Axe)” (Garren L.)

If there is one band that knows how to do thrash right, it’s Power Trip. The band’s new song, “Executioner’s Tax (Swing of the Axe),” is a testimony to this fact. Unlike the scattered and frantic energy of their previous single, “Firing Squad,” “Executioner’s Tax” displays a more focused rage. The difference between the songs is like comparing someone with blind rage to someone hell bent on revenge. Both songs prove that Power Trip’s new album, Nightmare Logic, is going to be thrash metal bliss.

Warbringer – “Silhouettes” (Dylan G.)

There’s been been plenty of thrash coming out lately, and Warbringer is the latest band to release a new track. “Silhouettes” sports that epic buildup for which the band is recognized (e.g., “Living Weapon” and “Horizon”). Overall, it’s a solid track from an unsurprisingly solid album.

Obituary – “Sentence Day” (Mike C.)

Death metal giants Obituary are back at it and better than ever with their new track “Sentence Day.” It’s a pretty quick turnaround after their EP, Ten Thousand Ways To Die, last year. Chock full of solos, “Sentence Day” really has everything you could want from an Obituary song. I’m beyond stoked to hear the rest of the album. The self-titled Obituary will be released March 17 on Relapse Records.
