This Acoustic Cover of Killswitch Engage’s “Rose of Sharyn” is Awesome
“Rose of Sharyn” was the first Killswitch Engage song I ever heard. Long before MetalSucks existed, Axl sent me a link to its music video on Roadrunner Records’ website. This was pre-YouTube, and downloading it took for-fucking-ever. I was hooked. I saved it on my hard drive for subsequent re-watching. Soon after I ended up purchasing The End of Heartache on CD and the rest is history. This happened right around the time of Dimebag’s death, the memory of which I shared this morning… so perhaps I was ready to move on with something new.
UK outfit Boomin, a four-piece consisting of two guitars, keyboards and a violin, have taken to covering the track in quite a creative fashion. It sounds almost nothing like the original — even some of the vocal melodies have been altered (or added, in the case of Howard Jones’ screamed parts) — which is really damn cool considering how many times I’ve heard this track in its original form. Check it out below.
