Watch: Anthrax’s Joey Belladonna Belts Out the National Anthem at a Chicago Cubs Game

Before we get to Anthrax and the Cubs, a few words about my Metal Mets.

I’m not sold on this team. Sure, they’ve made a nice run at the Wild Card here after a season of mediocrity, but I don’t see this group going far into the playoffs if they’re able to squeak in. In the past ten games they’re averaging fewer than three runs per game; despite pulling out a few W’s against the league’s worst teams, they’re basically back to being the same team they were for four months, relying on the home run ball and failing to hit in timely situations. They never had the hitting chemistry, and now their starting rotation is decimated by injury, forced to rely on completely unproven, young arms. Those starters won’t find success once the scouting reports get around, and they’ll get mauled in the playoffs by teams that have legitimate major league lineups. I wanna believe, but I just haven’t seen enough to make me.

ANYWAY. Anthrax’s Joey Belladonna sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” at a Cubs game last night and it was pretty frickin’ great! Despite its ubiquity in popular culture, most people don’t know how difficult of a song it is to sing. Belladonna does a fine, fine job.

Here’s the thing, though; everyone knows real Chicagoans are White Sox fans, so it figures Anthrax would show up at Wrigley… the guys are stinkin’ Yankees fans, the ultimate team of try-hard, fairweather baseball fans! Pshaw.
