Truckfighters Release Their “Calm Before the Storm”
Truckfighters won my heart at SXSW 2014 and their album Universe worked its way onto my Top 15 list that year, both thanks to the Swedish trio’s unstoppable energy — part grunge, part stoner, part metal and 100% RIFFS.
In that regard, “Calm Before the Storm” is a bit of an odd choice for the first single to be released from their forthcoming album V; it’s about as chilled out a track as I’ve heard from them and, contrary to their usually concise songwriting, it’s eight minutes long! It’s four minutes before we even hear a fuzzy guitar — the signature Truckfighters M.O. — and even then the song retains a mid-paced feel. But it’s good nonetheless, sounds a whole lot like the Truckfighters I fell in love with, and… well, even so, I just hope the title of this track is indicative of how the rest of V will roll out, with a bit more to headbang to. It’s good though, I like it, I really do!
V comes out through Fuzzorama and Century Media on September 30th. Pre-order here.
