Slipknot’s Corey Taylor Responds to Deicide’s Glen Benton
In a recent interview, Deicide’s Glen Benton slammed Slipknot for allegedly falsely promising to take Deicide on tour as a support act. Benton seemed particularly pissed at vocalist Corey Taylor, saying, “Fucking blow me Corey Taylor and all you fags.”
Well, today, Tuscon’s Rock 102.1 KFMA asked Taylor for a response. Taylor, who has a reputation for being a class act, wisely took the high road:
“I don’t know why I’m the biggest target now. Maybe it’s just because of my profile, or whatever, but… I mean, I haven’t seen Glen Benton in ten years. Y’know? Like, I [laughs], I haven’t talked to him in even longer. So I don’t know why he’s upset with me, I don’t know why he’s upset with us. We take out the bands who submit for us, man, y’know? It’s just that simple. I mean, out of respect to him, and what Deicide has done over the years, it’s like… if you talked to somebody, it wasn’t me, and they sure as hell didn’t talk me, ’cause I would have tried to do something, y’know?”
So whereas Benton stooped to throwing around a homophobic slur to express his beef, Taylor remained calm, ostensibly advised Benton to consult with his manager and booking agent, and arguably burned Benton (“I haven’t seen Glen Benton in ten years,” which could be read as “Is Glen Benton still around?”), albeit in a very polite manner.
Like I said. Class act.
Listen to the interview below. The bit about Benton comes around the 1:30 mark. Other topics of interest include the state of Taylor’s neck, favorite masks, the Slipknot Olympics, a vicious ping pong battle with Dave Grohl, and more.
