Dysrhythmia’s “Internal/Eternal” Will Rock Your Insides Forever

There’s an old saying that goes, “Writing about music is like dancing about architecture, and writing about Dysrhythmia music is like trying to make peanut butter by standing on your head and touching your tongue to your nose while humming Gershwin classics backwards.” I mean, if any band’s work transcends our puny language, it’s these dudes’.

Still, Stereogum did an excellent job summing “Internal/Eternal,” the band’s new single: “Driven by a relentlessly looping bass motif that Philip Glass might’ve written after misreading the label on a bottle of iced coffee concentrate, the song offers all of the fiddly technical delights you’d expect from this group of musicians.” And I’ll attempt to add to that: “Internal/Eternal” is the soundtrack to a Kafka novella about a man who wakes up one morning and finds that he’s a worm on a hook.

Actually, now that I wrote that, I’m note sure it’s right. Maybe “Internal/Eternal” is really more like an aural Rorschach test — you’ll hear what you wanna hear.
