Metallica Announce Free New York Show

According to Metal Hammer, Metallica have just announced that they’ll be playing a free performance in New York. Along with Rihanna, Chris Martin, Eddie Vedder, and more, the Bay Area thrashers (or former thrashers) will be performing at the free Global Citizen festival, which seeks to promote the idea that everyone can help fix the world’s problems.

Sound kind of lame? It probably will be. As always, Metallica don’t appear to be there as representatives of metal, but rather as part of an all-star cast of celebrities working for a cause and towards a solution neither of which is clearly defined. That said, a free Metallica show in Central Park is hard to hate. Hopefully it’ll go better than Slayer’s recent free performance at SDCC, and hey, Selena Gomez will be there, so you can torment the Selenators with more questions about metal. Trust me, it’s fun.
