I confess it was the combination of a few small words that interested me: black metal / hard rock. To encounter those terms in a description of one band is still new (see Tribulation, Kvelertak), so I read on about Eerie and their upcoming debut album. And that’s when my interest turned to action: I learned that Eerie is new here, but their members aren’t — they come from interesting bands like Draugar, Witch, and Alaric. It was time to click play on “The Yeti” (below via Invisible Oranges), Eerie’s first single.

That was a good move. Though you may strain to detect its black-ness, that won’t matter for long; like we recently experienced what could be mistaken for a black metal album by Yngwie Malmsteen, we now have met 2010 Enslaved after a major change to their philosophy on vocals, or Mastodon after a weekend with middle of the Bathory discography. Crank it up!

Eerie’s self-titled debut is out two weeks from tomorrow via Tee Pee. Pre-order here and here.
