Hello MetalSucks reader! Welcome to Sh*t That Comes Out Today, your Satanic bible of this week’s heavy new releases. We list ‘em, we spotlight ‘em, we link you to their preview jams and full streams — and we usually stick ‘em in a fancy Spotify playlist too (below) — all for your jammage! Now crank this shit up.

·

Sanzu - Heavy Over the HomeSanzu
Heavy Over The Home deluxe (Listenable)
On a playlist with: Gojira, Morbid Angel, DevilDriver
Listen Heavy Over The Home deluxe full stream (here)

Sanzuuuuuuu! Beastly, rage-core with double groove and “some” Gojira influence. Though think more -core, plus a bonus bit of “fuck you” to boot. Sanzu is a band un-disagreeable with. Plus it’s fine if you’re not into it, this isn’t totally serious music. Shit, dare we say it’s f-u-n? Reissued from 2014 with bonus tracks!

Mars Red SkyMars Red Sky
Apex III (Praise For The Burning Soul) (Listenable)
On a playlist with: Electric Wizard, Ghost, Sunder
Listen Apex III full stream (here)

Better place your bulk order for BIC-brand lighters, because you’re gonna burn through a ton of them waving ’em in the air, starry-eyed and piehole-agape’d, and probably drunk as all fuck. Mars Red Sky is that band, you get cavernous spaces and monster noises to stuff them with. You also get fuzz-beast distortion and excessive ball sweat. Apex III is headbangable. But smooth, too.

First FragmentFirst Fragment
Dasein (Unique Leader)
On a playlist with: Rings Of Saturn, Fit For An Autopsy, Beneath The Massacre
Listen Dasein full stream (here)

Quality usually finds its home in the incoherence characterizing today’s tech-death bands. It’s a physical matter: there just isn’t enough room for all those fucking notes. So bands most cleverly “stack” layers of noise end up writing the best albums. Maybe imagine a stack of drink coasters with random and intricate latticework patterns cut in each one, and your job is to align them such that you can actually look down through to the bottom completely unobstructed. Dasein is way too coherent.

·

Dawn Of AshesDawn Of Ashes
Theophany (Metropolis)
On a playlist with: Skrillex, Nicholas Cage’s son, neon rave kids
Listen “Tribe Of Chemosh” (here)

Before you say “holy fuck, no,” consider this: yes! Electro-goth-black-metal, all charged-up and craftily cringe-inducing in its cheesiness. But there’s this stupid (daft) honesty to ridiculous-sounding shit like Theophany: it pumps you up, without the aggression. Only if you’re someone who can get over not-smiling in exchange for smiling. Like, just enjoy it in the way you enjoy eating those poop-flavored jelly beans.

·

In MourningIn Mourning
Afterglow (Agonia)
On a playlist with: In Mourning
Listen Afterglow full stream (here)

You’ll find that most bands are categorizable into a ton of different classification systems. What those systems do, however ironically, is destroy the mother! Like, what classifies just as “metal” anymore? For submission to Category: Metal is In Mourning’s Afterglow. This goes to say of course that it’s a fantabulous metal album. But also that it’s got a bit of everything, and a ton of nothing you don’t need!

·

ToskaToska
Toska (Eihwaz)
On a playlist with: Glorior Belli, Uada, Spektr
Listen Toska full stream (here)

One of the benefits of spending entirely too much time trolling for new jams is that you come across some totally sweet new jams. Sweet not just meaning novel or super-distinctive or even perfect. Sweet = increased heartrate + a nod of interest (possibly a chin-pinch w/ tilted head) + eye-squinting during the hot moments. Toska, as a black metal album anyhow, has tons of hot moments: where the jams reach a peak, and then suddenly begin climbing again, against all expectation, straight into the fucking sky.
