Kevin Hufnagel of Gorguts/Dysrhythmia Has a Seriously Trippy Solo Project
Kevin Hufnagel, guitarist for both Gorguts and Dysrhythmia, has released the first record on his solo guitar project Backwards Through the Labrynth/Polar Night. The album is a double EP and while the A side will feature new music from Backwards Through the Maze, the B side is a physical release of Polar Night, which came out digitally in 2011. The catch? The physical release is only on a cassette that, according to the press release, is limited to 100 copies. But that’s not all bad because I’m fairly certain that 100 is still a larger number than the amount of functioning cassette players left in the world.
If you’re familiar with either of his other bands, the sound of Hufnagel’s solo endeavor might surprise you a little bit; it’s about as far away from Gorguts as you could possibly get. Rather than some good old fashioned skronky death metal, Hufnagel’s project is instrumental and full of soft ambience. There are enough trippy sound effects to warrant taking an hour off and listening to the whole thing with your favorite bong right nearby.
If you like what you hear, you can purchase Hufnagel’s solo project digitally at Bandcamp, and you can get the physical version here.
