Streamative Weapons: Listen to The Future of Death in Full
“Ashes of Paradise,” which we premiered right here on MetalSucks a couple of weeks ago, is the perfect kick-off for Primitive Weapons’ new album The Future of Death. It is, as our own Axl Rosenberg astutely observed, “like a horny, rabid junkyard dog with a weight problem: it is at once chunky, lubricious, infectious, and just plain old mean.”
And that’s a pretty great way of summing up The Future of Death as a whole. It’s just as angry and hook-laden as its predecessor, The Shadow Gallery, but it’s perhaps more dynamic; more ups, more downs, more sonic variety throughout. David Castillo’s post-hardcore yelp is no less gut-wrenching, but he’s introduced subtle cleans and spoken-word vocals; Arthur Shepherd’s riffs have a bit more nuance about them; and the rhythm section adjusts to it all appropriately. Really, it’s the perfect sophomore album; an evolved version of what Primitive Weapons laid out the first time around.
