Perturbator’s New Track “Neo Tokyo” Goes Hard as Fuck
It may not be Synthwave Sunday yet, but some things just can’t wait.
A brand new single from Perturbator — one of the undisputed kings of the burgeoning synthwave/metal crossover scene — is absolutely one of those things. MS scribe Jeff Treppel highlighted The Uncanny Valley as one of the most anticipated releases of 2016, and now we’re finally getting to hear new music from the record; NPR has the stream of “Neo Tokyo,” which you can check out below. Perturbator, aka James Kent, says the album was inspired by the ’70s Italian horror film Suspira and the Japanese manga/anime classics Ghost In The Shell and Akira.
Also, holy shit, Perturbator is gonna tour Europe with Blood Music labelmates GosT and Dan Terminus, with North American dates a very real possibility!!! And damn, he’s gotten REALLY popular. Says press copy:
His 2014 breakthrough album Dangerous Days saw unprecedented success – pushing him from virtually unknown into ten repressings of the album, mass critical acclaim, TV and movie synchs and sold out gigs across Europe – in less than two years’ time. In support of The Uncanny Valley, Perturbator tours Europe with labelmates Gost and Dan Terminus – stay tuned for North American dates.
Jam out to “Neo Tokyo” below, which sounds exactly like you’d hope and imagine given the track’s title and inspiration. The Uncanny Valley comes out May 6th via Blood Music on CD, vinyl and digitally. A special edition release features 16 extra drawings, compiling a full graphic novel for the album, as well as an entire 7-track EP of bonus material featuring three new tracks, two instrumental versions of tracks that originally contain vocals, one 8-bit version of a previously-released track and an unreleased demo that didn’t make the final cut for The Uncanny Valley. WOWZA. Pre-order here.
