Metallica: Record Store Day Live Album Will Benefit Victims of Paris Terror Attacks

Honestly not that interesting: Metallica are the official ambassadors of Record Store Day 2016. I don’t really know what that position entails (will the band attempt to negotiate peace in the long-running war between FYE and Barnes & Noble or something?), but you can read a statement on the matter from Lars Ulrich, and watch a non-embeddable video from ‘Tallica, here.

Considerably more interesting: what Metallica will release on Record Store Day. That would be a new offering called Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite, Metallica!, a recording of the band’s 2003 performance at Paris’ Le Bataclan — the venue the Eagles of Death Metal were playing when terrorists attacked this past November. Proceeds from the sales of this release will go to Give For France, a charity that seeks “to cover the need for aid and assistance to families of victims and survivors of the terrorist attack of November 13, 2015 in Paris.” That’s such a noble cause that you can almost put aside the fact that the recording would be from when Metallica were promoting St. Anger (which was release just a week earlier, on June 5, 2003).

According to setlist.fm (by way of Metal Injection), the setlist for this performance was as follows:

3. No Remorse
4. Fade to Black
5. Frantic
6. Ride the Lightning
7. Blackened
8. Encore: Seek & Destroy
9. Encore: Damage, Inc.

So at least there’s only one St. Anger song on the album!
